Every Man and Woman Is a Star is the second album by British electronic music duo Ultramarine. It was originally released in 1991 by Brainiak Records; a subsequent 1992 reissue on Rough Trade featured two additional tracks. The album has been described as an early classic of the ambient techno/house scene.
Not long since the reissues of the first two Ultramarine on LTM records, comes 'Companion', a viable collection of remixes and alternative versions of their landmark debut album 'Every Man And Woman Is A Star'. Much of the reworking is provided by the duo themselves but lesser-known talents offer interesting slants on this already sterling work.
House, ambient, dub and deep groove converge in perfectly hummable melodies - the basic simplicity of Ultramarine's blueprint. Highlights abound: the foot-tapping joy of "Stella Connects (edit)", the propelling bass of "Saratoga (remix)", even the all-too-brief chillout interlude of "The Downer".
Companion offers an hour of complementary remixes, alternate takes and lost tracks from the parent album, together with 1992 spin-off EP Nightfall In Sweetleaf. Star remixers include Spooky, Sweet Exorcist (aka Richard H. Kirk of Cabaret Voltaire), Coco Steel & Lovebomb and Ultramarine themselves.
