7 de oct. de 2022 · Cliff Givens came into the ranks first; the Newark, New Jersey native vacillated between sacred and secular singing situations throughout his lengthy career, coming over to the Ink Spots from the Golden Gate Quartet and later performing with the Southern Sons as well as working with Billy Ward’s Dominoes during the early ‘50s.
Johnson was called into the US Navy in 1943, followed by Wilson in 1944; they were temporarily replaced by Cliff Givens – who later left to join firstly The Ink Spots and then Billy Ward and His Dominoes – and Alton Bradley. The group moved first to the main Columbia record label and then, in 1948, to Mercury Records.
20 de feb. de 2006 · Particularly striking is "Mighty Long Time," a duet of sorts featuring Williamson on vocals and harmonica, and Cliff Givens of the Southern Sons Gospel Quartet on vocal bass. Givens' sung bassline gives the tune an odd, eerie, and atmospheric edge, and it is simply a remarkable recording.
