Born Magdalena Thora in Munich, Germany, in 1952; married Mike Stern, a jazz guitarist. Education: Graduated as a drama major from Falckenberg Schauspelschule in Germany; attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, as a composition major; also studied guitar with Bill Frisell, Jon Dami á n, and and Dave Tronzo.
