Sir Christopher James Hampton CBE FRSL ( Horta, Azores, 26 January 1946) is a British playwright, screenwriter, translator and film director. He is best known for his play Les Liaisons Dangereuses based on the novel of the same name and the film adaptation.

Christopher Hampton is a playwright, screenwriter, director and producer who has written translations, adaptations and original plays of various genres and historical periods. He is known for his translations of Ibsen, Moliere, Yasmina Reza and Choderlos de Laclos, and his adaptations of Dangerous Liaisons, Sunset Boulevard and Atonement. He also wrote the screenplay for A Dangerous Method and the musicals Rebecca and Stephen Ward the Musical.
