Das Chelsea College of Art and Design entstand aus mehreren Londoner Schulen. 1895 wurde in Chelsea die South-Western Polytechnic gegründet, an der vor allem wissenschaftliche und technische Fächer in Tages- und Abendkursen gelehrt wurden.
