Ceolwulf II (died c. 879) was the last king of independent Mercia. He succeeded Burgred of Mercia who was deposed by the Vikings in 874. His reign is generally dated 874 to 879 based on a Mercian regnal list which gives him a reign of five years.

Despite having been called 'a foolish king's Thane' by the pro-Wessex Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, Ceolwulf evidently enjoyed cordial relations with Alfred, king of Wessex and he was accepted as the legitimate king of Mercia. The two kings issued coinage of a similar design. The death of Ceolwulf II.

Ceolwulf (fl. 874-79) was the last king of the Mercians. His predecessor Burgred was driven out by the Vikings in late 873 or early 874; the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle calls Ceolwulf "a foolish king's thegn" who owed his kingship to the Vikings.
