Abrams was married to TV-movie producer and former exec Gerald Abrams and was the mother of multihyphenate J.J. Abrams and scribe Tracy Rosen.

She later began a writing career, authoring two books, Grandparents & Grandchildren and Teen Knitting Club. Carol Ann Abrams died from cancer on June 3, 2012, aged 69, at her home in Los Angeles.
