Carl Wigand Maximilian Jacobi (10 April 1775 – 18 May 1858) was a German psychiatrist . Biography. He was born in Düsseldorf, the son of philosopher Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi. He attended the universities of Jena, Göttingen, Erfurt, and Edinburgh, and for a period of time worked as a hospital aide in London.

Carl Wigand Maximilian Jacobi, auch Karl Wigand Maximilian Jacobi, war ein deutscher Mediziner, Geheimer und Obermedizinalrat sowie Leiter der Provinzial-Heilanstalt Siegburg. Er gilt als einer der Begründer der modernen Irrenheilkunde.
Maximilian Jacobi, der erste Direktor der ?ltesten rheinischen Irrenheilanstalt zu Siegburg (1775?1858) hat zur Begr?ndung der Psychiatrie als Wissenschaft entscheidende Beitr?ge geleistet.
Biographie. J. erhielt Bildung und Ausbildung im kultivierten Elternhaus, 1793 begann er ein Medizinstudium in Jena (hier war er mit Goethe bekannt) und studierte 1795/96 weiter in Göttingen, Edinburgh und London. 1797 wurde er an der Univ. Erfurt promoviert. Nach kurzer ärztlicher Praxis 1799 in Vaels b.
