The Cambridge and County School for Boys was put in the care of the Revd. C.J.N. Child who was duly appointed headmaster. The first intake of 41 boys, drawn mainly from outside Cambridge City, arrived on 18 September 1900 at the Lecture Hall of St. Andrew's Baptist Church to begin their studies.
