At age 12, he branched out to clarinet, tenor sax, bassoon and flute. At age 33 he hooked up with FZ. His trumpet-playing brother Buzz Gardner (deceased, 2004) was also a member of the Mothers, and has worked with Bunk in other musical contexts as well. A collection of various recordings outside of his Mothers of Invention career spanning from 1959-1981 was issued on CD as It's All Bunk! in 2007.

9 de nov. de 2011 · Bunk Gardner joined the Mothers Of Invention in early 1967. He recorded and toured with Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention until late 1969. Shortly after he had left The Mothers, Bunk performed with Menage A Trois, with his brother Buzz and with John Balkin. Bunk Gardner also toured and recorded with Geronimo Black and with The Grandmothers.
