Bruce McCandless II (Boston, Massachusetts; 8 de junio de 1937-Los Ángeles, California; 21 de diciembre de 2017) [1] fue un oficial naval y aviador estadounidense, ingeniero eléctrico y astronauta de la NASA.
Bruce McCandless II (born Byron Willis McCandless; [1] June 8, 1937 – December 21, 2017) was an American Navy officer and aviator, electrical engineer, and NASA astronaut. In 1984, during the first of his two Space Shuttle missions, he completed the first untethered spacewalk by using the Manned Maneuvering Unit .
26 de jul. de 2023 · The former NASA astronaut, who was the first to fly untethered from his spacecraft in the Manned Maneuvering Unit, died on Dec. 21, 2017. He was a retired U.S. Navy captain and a member of the Apollo 14 and Skylab support crew. He also flew as a mission specialist on two shuttle missions and helped deploy the Hubble Space Telescope.
