The Jerry Garcia Band was a San Francisco Bay Area rock band led by Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead.Garcia founded the band in 1975; it remained the most important of his various side projects until his death in 1995. The band regularly toured and recorded sporadically throughout its twenty-year existence, generally, but not always, during breaks in the Grateful Dead's schedule.

31 de dic. de 2014 · One night, late-August or early-September 1995, I finished a broadcast compiled mostly of Garcia Saunders and a few tracks from Dick’s Picks V1 (12/19/73). Armed with a cassette recording of the broadcast (I loved the AM saturation and sustain from the board), I headed over to a friend’s house for what turned out to be a cannabis listening party.

In der Folge spielte Garcia regelmäßig mit seiner Jerry García Band, daneben war er Mitglied (beziehungsweise Bandleader) von Legion of Mary und Old and in the Way. Bei fast allen Soloprojekten begleiteten ihn John Kahn am Bass und Merl Saunders an den Keyboards. Auch Mitglieder der Grateful Dead waren öfter Gastmusiker bei Garcías Solobands.
