Smedley is the only member of Iced Earth that didn't announce a departure from the band following guitarist Jon Schaffer taking part in the January 6th, 2021 attack on the US Capitol Building.
While on the supporting tour for Something Wicked This Way Comes (with Brent Smedley back on drums), the band recorded their first live album in Athens, Greece on January 23 and 24, 1999. Entitled Alive in Athens, the three CD set was recorded in front of a sold-out audience (both nights) at the Rodon Club.
