Brendan Hughes (June 1948 – 16 February 2008), also known as "The Dark", and "Darkie" was a leading Irish republican and former Officer Commanding (OC) of the Belfast Brigade of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA). He was the leader of the 1980 Irish hunger strike.

Brendan Hughes was the OC of the IRA prisoners in the H-Blocks during the No Wash protest which began in March 1978. He subsequently led the 1980 hunger strike, going without food for 53 days. Brendan Hughes was released from jail in 1986.
