Brandon Johnson (born March 27, 1976) is an American educator and politician serving as the 57th mayor of Chicago. A member of the Democratic Party, Johnson was elected mayor in April 2023. He previously served on the Cook County Board of Commissioners from 2018 to 2023, representing the 1st district.
Brandon Johnson is an associate professor of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at Purdue University, where he studies impact cratering and other geophysical problems. He uses hydrocodes to simulate the formation of large basins and impact processes in the solar system and beyond, and has published several papers on lunar, Venusian, and extra-solar cratering.
