  1. 30 de may. de 2006 · Bob Monkhouse's grandfather was the founder of Monk & Glass custard powder firm, I can see the packet now, it was yellow and had a monk in a brown habit carrying a glass dish of custard. We nearly always had M & G when I was a child but I think the firm must have been merged with another as it seemed to disappear.

  2. 6 de feb. de 2011 · I appreciate Bob Monkhouse more now than I did when he was popular, he was rather of his time. He should though be respected as a gag writer and for his dedication. He wasn't an intrinsically funny man like for instance Eric Morecambe. But he was a master of witty one-liners and quick retorts.

  3. The impression, probably unintentionally, was given that The Golden Shot began with Bob Monkhouse as host but that dubious honour was actually given to Canadian actor/producer Jackie Rae, who presented the first 14 shows. TBH he never really looked comfortable and BM lifted it several notches when he took over.

  4. 6 de feb. de 2011 · I liked Bob Monkhouse - partly because my Dad was a big fan. I find all the negative comments on here quite upsetting actually. I suppose some people didn't like his persona when he was on-stage, too obvious that it was an act and he was working.

  5. 5 de feb. de 2011 · The fascinating thing about the programme "The Secret Life of Bob Monkhouse" is the incredible archive he kept ,which no-one else did, of British TV shows. Obsessive about it, he was. He kept stuff on film and later video that BBC/ITV channels destroyed and that archive has to be preserved.

  6. 17 de ago. de 2012 · He told a funny anecdote in the 'Audience with' episode he was the subject. It was about an irritable caller with a heavy Birmimgham accent perfectly done by Bob, to the 'Golden Shot' in which, it emerged during Bob's account, he was calling from a phone box using the TV sets in Rumbelows window.

  7. 26 de dic. de 2016 · I grew up watching Bob Monkhouse on The Golden Shot, then Celebrity Squares, Family Fortunes etc, but I always thought he was smarmy and insincere and rather irritating. I didn't think he was much better on his eighties chat show either. It was only when he returned to standup in the nineties that I realised what a great comedian he was.

  8. 29 de dic. de 2003 · Bob Monkhouse has passed away this morning after a two and a half year fight against cancer. I for one regardeded him as one of the very best, no one could beat his excellent timing and incredible wit.

  9. 27 de jul. de 2024 · Bob Monkhouse - king of the quiz shows. Really enjoyed Call My Bluff although I didn't get many right.

  10. 11 de dic. de 2007 · Yes Daviel, that's another legendary Alan Brazil faux pas - unfortunately I didn't hear it at the time and (so far) have been unable to track down the mp3.
