Hilliard Ensemble was a British male vocal quartet originally devoted to the performance of early music. The group was named after the Elizabethan miniaturist painter Nicholas Hilliard. Founded in 1974, the group disbanded in 2014.

Bloed gaat over liefde, oorlog en macht en is een mix van Renaissancemuziek en van elektronische en instrumentale muziek samengesteld en gecomponeerd door Cornelis de Bondt. De teksten zijn ontleend aan Exodus, aan Euripides, Vergilius en Shakespeare en aan anonieme teksten van madrigalen en motetten uit de 16e eeuw.
