Znana je kao avangardna umjetnica i kao udovica nekadašnjeg člana Beatlesa Johna Lennona, s kojim je snimila nekoliko glazbenih albuma.Bila je također pjevačica u Plastic Ono Bandu. Od šesdesetih godina djeluje kao pacifistica i antirasistička aktivistica.
