È uno dei quattro membri fondatori della band heavy metal dei Black Sabbath, con la quale ha militato fino al 1980, e in seguito in diverse occasioni durante gli anni ottanta e gli anni novanta, prima di rientrarvi in pianta stabile nel 1997.
