Bill Tilghman. William Matthew Tilghman Jr. (July 4, 1854 – November 1, 1924) was a career lawman, gunfighter, and politician in Kansas and Oklahoma during the late 19th century. Tilghman was a Dodge City city marshal in the early 1880s and played a role in the Kansas County Seat Wars.

16 de nov. de 2009 · Tilghman was a famous marshal who enforced law and order in the West, capturing notorious bandits and protecting the rights of the accused. He was shot and killed by a corrupt Prohibition agent who resented his refusal to ignore local bootlegging operations.
The following year Tilghman effected the solitary arrest of notorious gang leader Bill Doolin. Doolin soon escaped from jail but was tracked down and killed by a posse led by Thomas. In 1900 and 1902 Tilghman was elected as Lincoln County sheriff.
