The book was first published in 1971 by Collins Publishers. It tells the story of a young boy named Bill, who makes a wooden paddle and sets it afloat on a river, with the hope that it will reach the Atlantic Ocean.
Bill Mason was an outdoors person to the very marrow of his being. He simply couldn’t get enough of wild places. In his semi-autobiographical documentary, Waterwalker, Bill explores the magnificent Northern Woods and waterways of his beloved Canada (Link to documentary below article).
