He has been credited as a progenitor of jump blues and of early rock and roll. His hit songs included ‘Sweet 16,’ ‘Honey, Hush,’ ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll,’ and ‘Flip, Flop and Fly.’.
Big Joe Turner (May 18, 1911, Kansas City, MO, USA - November 24, 1985, Inglewood, CA, USA) was an American blues shouter. Turner often collaborated with pianist Pete Johnson . In addition he worked with the pianists Art Tatum and Sammy Price and with various small jazz ensembles.
