10 de feb. de 2012 · Bessie's two graves. Tomorrow marks the 69th anniversary of the death of Beatrice "Bess" Houdini on February 11, 1943. She passed away aboard a train bound for New York as it arrived in the town of Needles, CA. For the occasion, I thought I'd take a look at the question of her two gravesites.
Bess Houdini (January 23, 1876 – February 11, 1943), whose real name was Wilhelmina Beatrice Rahner, was the stage assistant and wife of Harry Houdini. Bess was working at Coney Island in a song and dance act called The Floral Sisters when she met Houdini and married him a week later. Bess and Harry worked as The Houdinis for several years before Houdini hit it big as The Handcuff King.
30 de jul. de 2011 · Bess Houdini, by all accounts, was as much a go-getter as her husband. She looked after a household filled with pets and family, kept Houdini focused onstage and off, wrangled the assistants for his full evening roadshow, and even made all the costumes.

La misma Bess corría una cortina para ocultarse de los espectadores, de inmediato se oían tres palmadas y, al descorrer la cortina, aparecía Houdini totalmente liberado junto al arcón, con el saco del que ahora salía Bess esposada.

Bess Houdini appeared as herself in the 1938 film Religious Racketeers (a.k.a. Mystic Circle Murder) directed by Frank O'Conner and produced by Fanchon Royer. In the film, she expressed her belief that communication with those who have died is impossible. The film sparked controversy among spiritualists, but was praised by magicians.
