Bernard Edwards (October 31, 1952 – April 18, 1996) was an American bass player and record producer, known primarily for his work in disco music with guitarist Nile Rodgers, with whom he co-founded Chic. In 2017, Edwards was selected as the 53rd greatest bassist of all time by Bass Player magazine.

He was in Japan with his partner Nile Rodgers, who co-founded Chic with him in the '70s. They co-wrote and co-produced hits like "Le Freak", "Dance, Dance, Dance" and "Good Times". Madonna's early sound was also influenced by Chic.
Bernard Edwards was a co-founder of Chic, a funk rock band that created hits such as "Dance, Dance, Dance", "Everybody Dance", "Le Freak" and "I Want Your Love". He also wrote and produced songs for other artists like Diana Ross, Sister Sledge and Fonzi Thornton. He died of pneumonia in 1996 and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005.
