1977–1982: early years. Robert Forster and Grant McLennan met at the University of Queensland, where both were taking a theatre arts course. [2] . Forster provided vocals and guitar, while McLennan provided vocals, bass, and guitar; the pair shared songwriting duties. Together, they formed The Go-Betweens in December 1977 in Brisbane, Queensland.
