  1. Bedales was founded by John Haden Badley in 1893 to be a humane alternative to the authoritarian regimes typical of late-Victorian public schools. We aim to create an environment where questioning, divergent thinking and the freedom to learn from mistakes are all encouraged.

  2. Bedales School is a co-educational private school (boarding and day) in the village of Steep, near the market town of Petersfield in Hampshire, England. It was founded in 1893 by John Haden Badley in reaction to the limitations of conventional Victorian schools and has been co-educational since 1898.

  3. Bedales School achieves consistently good academic results despite not being overly selective. In 2021, 65% of GCSE and BAC grades were 9-7 grades and 21% of A-Level grades were A grades. Not being keen on the GCSE curriculum (too restrictive!), Bedales School introduced the Bedales Assessed Courses (BAC).

  4. Bedales School is recognised as one of England’s top tier public schools, a reputation coming from its strong international profile, above average sector academic performance, and above all class leading whole child development programs.
