Beard, wives denim was my gateway Pond album as well and Elegant Design was my gateway song! I always thought it sounded like a song by led zeppelin, but still different enough where it was its own thing. Beard, Wives, Denim was my gateway album too and it's still my favorite. I've been wondering this same question.
