13 de may. de 2024 · Bear, any of eight species of large short-tailed carnivores found in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The sun bear is the smallest, often weighing less than 50 kg (110 pounds). The largest bear, and the largest land carnivore, is either the polar bear or the Kodiak bear; either can weigh up to 720 kg (1,600 pounds).
Modern bears comprise eight species in three subfamilies: Ailuropodinae (monotypic with the giant panda ), Tremarctinae (monotypic with the spectacled bear ), and Ursinae (containing six species divided into one to three genera, depending on the authority).
The grizzly bear is a North American subspecies of the brown bear. Grizzlies are typically brown, though their fur can appear to be white-tipped, or grizzled, lending them their name.
