Bath Spa University’s Locksbrook Campus is a re-purposing of the Farrell/Grimshaw partnership’s factory for Herman Miller. Originally completed in 1976, it now houses the Schools of Art and Design. The building sits within the World Heritage Site of Bath and was listed Grade II in 2013.
Bath Spa University purchased the building in 2016 in order to relocate the School of Art and Design, looking to consolidate the faculty, then spread over six sites and several buildings. The new facility, accommodating around 800 students, opened in October 2019, fulfilling an original intent of the design, that the building should be able to adapt to a future owner and entirely different use.
