The mission of the Barnes is to promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts and horticulture. Our founder, Dr. Albert C. Barnes, believed that art had the power to improve minds and transform lives. Our diverse educational programs are based on his teachings and one-of-a-kind collections.

Barnes in 1922 to “promote the advancement of education and appreciation of the fine arts.” The organization operates two main campuses in Pennsylvania. (The Barnes country house, Ker-Feal, is not open to the public.)
Created in 1922, the Barnes Foundation originated with Dr. Albert Barnes’ mission to foster cognitive development through new approaches to education and to heighten critical-thinking and problem-solving skills through the study of art.
