The Barbara Speake Stage School is a co-educational, non-denominational school, providing a learning environment where the individual is catered for in small class groups (average 16 pupils, maximum 20), where self-reliance, confidence and self-esteem can be developed.
Inspection report: Barbara Speake Stage School, 25−27 June 2013 5 of 10 is enhanced through dance and music lessons. In lessons such as English, drama and history, pupils develop empathy towards others, and show a strong sense of right and wrong in discussing moral issues, for example relating to slavery, friendship and cruelty to animals.

Pupils learn English, mathematics, science and a humanities subject as part of their academic curriculum. The proprietor has been running classes at the premises since 1945.
Barbara Speake Stage School is an independent co-educational day school for pupils aged three and a half to 16 years. The school specialises in teaching the performing arts. It was opened in 1963 by the current proprietor, Miss Barbara Speake and she and the head teacher, her nephew, are in charge of the day to day running of the school.
