Ten years after the major retrospective devoted to him at the Palais Galliera, Azzedine Alaïa (1935-2017) is back in the spotlight with an exhibition showcasing the remarkable heritage collection he amassed over the years, and which has never been exhibited before.
Notoriously mimicked, yet never truly copied, Azzedine Alaïa is the most renowned of contemporary fashion designers. His work continues to surprise, invigorate, as well as titillate the imagination. With technique, craftsmanship, and mastery of cut as trademark, Alaïa’s impact on fashion is especially relevant today; the last great couturier to work solely on the body.
Since 1964, Alaïa is a legendary Parisian Couture Maison, which, beyond fashion, reveals the power of femininity and the timelessness of beauty in the spirit of its namesake creator. Open to inspiration from all cultures and artistic fields, the free and uncompromising mind of Azzedine Alaïa still imbues the Maison’s invention in all things.
