Atavachron is instrumental jazz fusion that makes heavy use of the synthaxe, a guitar-shaped MIDI controller that hasn’t been produced since the ’80s. While the synthaxe’s presence undeniably dates Atavachron – as does the production – the record is a fun listen. Holdsworth is a phenomenal guitarist, and the backing band holds their own.
