The first is Astrid Kirchherr, a German photographer who befriended the band during their time in Hamburg, Germany.

The photos that McCartney took in 1963 and 1964 with the Pentax camera were thought to be lost. Nearly 1000 images on contact sheets from 1963-64 were discovered in McCartney’s archive in 2020.

All three are significantly better, technically, than almost all of Paul’s images. The Kirchherr image is a publicity shot of the group which was used in marketing material for the Paris tour.
