Andreas Kronthaler’s first foray into the arts was at the age of 14 when he entered art school in Graz, Austria where he spent the next five years training to be a jeweller. During this period, Kronthaler also experimented with various mediums, experimenting in sculptures and installations as well as with sewing and textiles.
Andreas Kronthaler is the other half of Vivienne Westwood, both in fashion and in matrimony. Meeting at university in Vienna in 1988 when Westwood was a visiting lecturer, she was so impressed by student Kronthaler’s series of transformable, circular belted Renaissance dresses that she invited him to London in 1989 to develop these designs.
