The Soul Survivors were an American garage rock band from Denver, Colorado, who were active in the mid-1960s. Included in their roster were Allen Kemp and Pat Shanahan, who later become members of the Poor before joining Ricky Nelson as members of his "Stone Canyon Bad" and later the New Riders of the Purple Sage in the late 1970s.

During this fifteen-year period, an evolving lineup of musicians played with Dawson and Gauthier in the New Riders. These included among others, guitarists Allen Kemp, Gary Vogensen, and Evan Morgan; bass players Fred Campbell, Bill Laymon, and Michael White; and drummers Val Fuentes, and Greg Lagardo.

20 de oct. de 2021 · Allen Kemp and Pat Shanahan joined Randy in 1969 as members of Rick Nelson’s Stone Canyon Band. In the late ’70s & early ’80s, Kemp and Shanahan went on to New Riders Of the Purple Sage. Shanahan taking the place of longtime drummer Spencer Dryden (formerly of Jefferson Airplane) in 1977 and Allen Kemp in 1981.
