Alcée Fortier High School was a high school in Uptown New Orleans, Louisiana that served grades 8–12. It was located five blocks away from McMain Secondary School. [1] History. The school opened in 1931 and was named for the renowned professor of Romance Languages at Tulane, Alcée Fortier. [2] . Originally Fortier was an all-boys school. [1]

He was the first director of the award-winning Fortier High School Band from Feb. 1931 to 1938 and the New Orleans Police Band from 1947 to 1970. He was the first president of the LMEA (1936-1937). Denena was in the US Navy 1917-1921, and later served as a Captain and then Major in the Marine Corps Reserves.
