17 de ago. de 2023 · Los albatros son aves marinas que pertenecen a la familia Diomedeidae. Tienen alas estrechas y de gran longitud, con una envergadura que podría llegar a medir 3,5 metros, lo que les coloca entre las aves voladoras más grandes (pueden pesar casi 12 kilos).
Albatrosses, of the biological family Diomedeidae, are large seabirds related to the procellariids, storm petrels, and diving petrels in the order Procellariiformes (the tubenoses). They range widely in the Southern Ocean and the North Pacific.
Etimología. En idioma español el término albatros, nombre común que se aplica a los miembros de la familia Diomedeidae, proviene del inglés albatross. [3] El término inglés se deriva del español alcatraz (el ave homónima, y que dio nombre a la famosa prisión), que a su vez lo hace del árabe al-câdous o al-ġaţţās (un pelícano, que significa literalmente «buceador»).
