Alan Sillitoe was a prolific and influential British writer of novels, short stories, poetry and non-fiction. He is best known for his portrayal of working-class life in Nottingham and his anti-heroes in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning and The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner.

(1928/03/04 - 2010/04/25) Alan Sillitoe Escritor británico Nació el 4 de marzo de 1928 en Nottingham ( Gran Bretaña ). Hijo de un trabajador analfabeto que cambiaba de trabajo casi cada semana. La familia fue dando tumbos de infravivienda en infravivienda y su madre tuvo que prostituirse temporalmente para dar de comer a su parentela.
Sillitoe trabajó como periodista y comenzó a escribir de una manera desencantada sobre la situación inglesa. Su obra más famosa a nivel internacional es La soledad del corredor de fondo ( 1959 ) que fue adaptada al cine en 1962.
