John's Book of Alleged Dances (1994) is a composition by John Adams for string quartet and recorded prepared piano. Commissioned and premiered by the Kronos Quartet, the first performance took place November 19, 1994, at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, California.

About the album. John Adams writes in his liner notes: ” These dances, dedicated to my friends in Kronos, are ‘alleged’ because the steps for them have yet to be invented. They cuss, chaw, hock hooeys, scratch and talk too loud… Six of the dances are accompanied by the giddy rhythm track made of prepared piano sounds.
