The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) was a British drama school. It had two sites: ALRA South on Wandsworth Common in south London and ALRA North in Wigan, Greater Manchester. It was founded in 1979 by director and actor Sorrel Carson who then directed the school as its principal until 2001.
ALRA is a drama school, a member of CDET and one which provides the highest quality training for students following a career as an actor, actress, stage manager or technician. Based in both London and Wigan, Lancashire, our drama training covers TV & film acting for camera from week 1 to the end of your training.
It was a highly regarded and coveted drama academy until it’s sudden and sad closure in April 2022. This website is dedicated to providing a single source for all things ALRA and its alumni who continue to perform, teach and direct all over the world today.
Our Mission. ALRA aims to equip actors and theatre technicians with those skills fundamental to a productive and creative life in the performance industries. ALRA is dedicated to helping students of all backgrounds and ages to enter the world of live and recorded arts.
