A Crash Course in Roses is the fifth studio album by Catie Curtis, released on August 3, 1999 . The album contains numerous love songs, with "Magnolia Street", a song about the realization that one is in love, gaining some radio airplay.

A Crash Course in Roses finds Boston-based singer-songwriter Catie Curtis streamlining the sound that made her 1997 self-titled release a critical breakthrough. Eschewing lush string and horn arrangements, she allows her songwriting and singing to take center stage on this 13-song set of midtempo, acoustic-flavored folk-pop.
Led by singer-songwriters Jennifer Kimball (the Story), Ry Cavanaugh (Vinyl Avenue String Band) and drummer Billy Beard (Patty Griffin, Kim Richey, Family Jewels), the Cambridge-based group's debut What Matters pushes folk's acoustic envelope with a low-end sound built around Beard's subtly propulsive cocktail-kit drumming and Cavanaugh's baritone guitar.
