"If you make my daughters cry, I'll make you cry." That's the rallying cry of Paul Hennessy. A little rusty in the parenting department, Paul is forced to meet fatherhood head-on when his wife Cate returns to work.
Because of Ritter's death, the show's name was shortened from the quirky 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter to simply 8 Simple Rules. The ratings also took a plunge shortly after episodes dealing with Paul's death and it was cancelled within two years.
