JJ CALE BACKGROUND. John Weldon Cale was born on December 5, 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and cited Chet Atkins, Les Paul and Chuck Berry as some of his earliest influences. He was often quoted as saying, “In trying to imitate them, I missed it. And I came up with my own kinda thing.”

J.J. Cale was a very influential independent musician who kept a low profile and was not known to the wide audience. He created a unique mellow, laid back and slightly dreamy sound that was later copied and popularized by Dire Straits and others. Cale's albums are all more or less the same, so I chose "5", but "Shades" (1981) is also good.
