Shorten primero (meaning first) to primer, and tercero (meaning third) to tercer before a masculine singular noun. su primer cumpleaños his first birthday el tercer premio the third prize. Note that when you are writing these numbers in figures, don’t write 1st, 2nd, 3rd as in English.
