The Motels es una banda new wave estadounidense del área de San Francisco, formada en 1971. Sus canciones más conocidas han sido Only the Lonely y Suddenly Last Summer, cada una de las cuales alcanzó el n° 9 del Billboard Hot 100, en 1982 y 1983, respectivamente.
The Motels are an American new wave band from Berkeley, California, that is best known for the singles "Only the Lonely" and "Suddenly Last Summer", each of which peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, in 1982 and 1983, respectively.
By 1975, Davis had to leave behind her family and home in Berkeley so that The Warfield Foxes could try to launch their musical career in Los Angeles. The group's name slowly morphed into The Motels after being inspired by the motor inns that they passed along Santa Monica Boulevard.
A finales de los 90 se reúne con un grupo de músicos y se presenta como Martha Davis and The Motels. De este modo se dedican a realizar conciertos por Estados Unidos. Hasta que en 2005 lanzan un álbum titulado "So The Story Goes". También lanzan un disco en directo por esa época.
It wasn’t until 1998 that Davis started touring with her band as “The Motels featuring Martha Davis” and released another album in 2004 called, “So the Story Goes”. They later released Beautiful Life in 2008, and she also released a children’s in 2011 called, Red Frog Presents: 16 songs for Parents and Children.
