Fort Macleod (/ m ə ˈ k l aʊ d / mə-KLOWD) is a town in southern Alberta, Canada. It was originally named Macleod to distinguish it from the North-West Mounted Police barracks (Fort Macleod, built 1874) it had grown around.

It is recognized because: founded in 1805, it was the site of the first fur-trading post built by the North West Company west of the Rocky Mountains; Indigenous Peoples, their territories, and labour were foundational to the fur trade in North America.
