25 de abr. de 2023 · The historic Tünel (F2) is Istanbul’s first funicular and Europe’s second-oldest underground railway, operating since 1875. It was designed to connect the bustling Karaköy district with Beyoğlu, easing the steep climb between the two areas.
In Istanbul there are two funicular lines: Karaköy-Beyoğlu Tünel. The Tünel funicular is the second oldest underground transport after the London metro. The construction of the funicular was instigated by the French engineer Eugene Henri Gavand, who saw the necessity to connect the two business districts at the time.

Traveled on this funicular railway when in Istanbul. It is a good way to travel in this part of the city and links (just about) two of their tramways. I discovered later that it is the 2nd oldest underground railway in the world after London.
