  1. Duane Howard, Scheyenne, North Dakota, is an all-around champion cowboy who has been involved in rodeo for more than 50 years. He competed in three events, bull riding, saddle bronc riding and bareback riding.

  2. He qualified in saddle bronc riding and bull riding at the first National Finals Rodeo in 1959 and 1960 and was the bull riding average winner in 1960 before his competitive career was cut short by a severe injury suffered at Cheyenne (Wyo.) Frontier Days in 1961.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Duane Howard, who was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2008 for a lifetime devoted to elevating the cowboy sport as a contestant, administrator pickup man and judge, died early on Oct. 1 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, N.D. He was 82.
