The album title was thought to be a dig at Rod Stewart, who appeared to be more committed to his solo career than working with the Faces. Wood has said that the title originated from contributors such as George Harrison and Mick Jagger "nagging me to let them go home" and finish their own projects.

The album was recorded on 5 February 1993 at Universal Studios, Los Angeles as part of MTV's Unplugged series. The event aired on television on 5 May of the same year. Unplugged finds Stewart reunited, for the first time in nearly twenty years, with Ronnie Wood, a fellow Faces band member.
Along with vocalist Rod Stewart, Wood did several tours with Beck and recorded two albums: Truth in 1968 and Beck-Ola in 1969. In between Jeff Beck Group projects, Wood also worked with the Creation.

Unplugged…and Seated is Rod Stewart’s second live album and was released on 24 May 1993. The album was recorded on 5 February 1993 at Universal Studios, LA as part of the popular MTV Unplugged series. The album reunited Rod and Ronnie for the first time in nearly 20 years.
